The publisher

Founded around a belief in becoming.

PUPA—the protected stage in which transformation takes place—expresses our belief that literature can carry a life from silence into form.

PUPA Books focuses on narratives of families and children facing the challenges of illness, immigration, and human suffering.

Submissions and rights

Clear permissions protect every voice in a book.

PUPA Books welcomes original work and thoughtful collaborations. Before we can publish a manuscript, we must understand who created it, who owns each contribution, and whether any earlier agreement limits its use.

01

Submit only with authority

The person submitting a work must be its author or must have permission from the person who controls the relevant rights.

02

Name every contributor

Tell us about coauthors, translators, editors, illustrators, photographers, introduction writers, and anyone else whose protected work may appear in the book.

03

Disclose earlier uses

Identify prior publication, existing contracts, translations, quotations, lyrics, images, artificial-intelligence assistance, and other third-party material.

04

Rights remain with you

Submitting a manuscript does not transfer copyright and does not require PUPA Books to publish it. If we wish to proceed, the parties will sign contributor permissions and a separate publishing agreement.

What happens next: Selected manuscripts may receive a conditional editorial letter and requests for signed author, translator, or contributor declarations. Commercial terms and publication rights are addressed only in the final publishing agreement.
